trailer hitch works well, trailer wiring not so well? fried parking lights

The other day I saw a 'free' motorcycle on craigslist. (1980 Suzuki GS850G for anyone interested).

The previous owner of my car had a trailer hitch and wiring installed at U-Hual so I went back there, rented a trailer, and now I have a motorcycle 'project'. The hitch is ok. After driving with the trailer pluged in the bulb-out warnign light came on at the dash. Now the driver's side front and rear parking/ running lights are out.

I have been suspicious of these wires as the bulb fixture for the rear driver's side parking light was already a bit melted...

Any thoughts? Is this a fuse or did I fry something bad?

Thanks,
nathan
