Hi All,
This is my first post here, but I have been lurking the past month or so. My mom bought a 67 122s about 6 or 7 years ago and it has sat since she bought it. She finally signed the title over to me so its time to do some more work to it. I got it running last summer (2004) and also rebuilt the front suspension (all balljoints, bushings, tierods) and put new tires on it. I need to redo the rear suspension still, but the engine makes a funny noise that is rpm dependant.
The post below about Virginia blowing up, made me post this since I would like some more info. I have adjusted the valves to some ways I have found on the net, and also an older Volvo service manual I have - but this did nothing for the noise. I am not sure if its valvetrain, a loose rod (I don't think its that) but its there at idle, and gets worse (quicker tapping sound) with the higher rpms. the engine itself burns a bit of oil all the time, but starts right up and idles decent, but it won't pull past 4000k or 4500k rpms.
I did drive it around town last summer for about 20 or 30 miles - remember it sat for awhile (rubber break lines are seaping so I parked it). Its going to be my project this winter to get rid of the engine noise and make it road worthy, hoping I can get away without a full engine rebuild quite yet.
Any ideas on what the noise could be? (Bad fiber timing gear hopefully)
One last thing, the speedometer is stuck at 55mph. I know I should check the cable and make sure thats spins freely seperate from the instrument cluster. If it does, any ideas or tips to tear apart the speedo itself?
Thanks Guys,
Rhett
