Vent Rattle/Chatter 700 1991

Bricksters
After putting new struts and mount bearings in my '91 745 with 150K, I decided to take the family for a 600 mile long weekend trip. It has been a while since I have driven it for hours on end at 70 on the hiway. For the last 200 miles home it made a rattle/chattering sound consistently at speeds between 68 and 75. The noise seems to be coming from directly in front of the driver. Like out of the defroster vent in front of the steering wheel. I remember it doing this inconsistently on long trips over the years but this got really annoying.

I read in faqs that there are some flaps to direct air flow that are operated by vacuum motors and that sometimes debris gets in the way of the flap seating in the selected position. Are there flaps in the area in front of the driver? Is there an easy fix or is this a live with it condition?

Appreciate any ideas. Thanks Greg
