How I fixed a check engine light (codes 2-3-1 / 2-2-1) - lean/rich condition ('94 945t) 900

I was driving to work yesterday morning --- first real cold snap of the season (30 degrees). About 15 minutes in to my commute and at about 70 mph the check engine light came on. Car wasn't running much diferently, other than a slightly jumpy idle. A few weeks ago, I pulled the throttle body and cleaned it, and reset the old TPS (throttle position switch) to fix the dreaded idle see-sawing.)

Anyway, after pulling the codes at work, and then trying to reset that --- didn't reset --- I drove back home. After scouring the FAQ (LOVE THAT THING), found a nice little writeup in the tune section about the MAF - and how lean/rich conditions might be caused loose connections around the air filter/MAF area.

Sure enough, the air intake hose that goes from the MAF outake to my turbo intake had slipped off (turbo side) about 1/2 way. Pulled the hose, cleaned the oil/gunk off the hose, and reset the clamps. The codes still wouldn't reset, so I pulled the neg cable for a few minutes.

Now, all is good. No more codes / check engine light. Idle seems nearly perfect. ChrisW
