ydraulic tensioner..causing mucho tension 900

92 960 timing belt tensioner. I had it in the vise and put a nail in it to hold it back, released the vise and the nail bent. Tried it again using a small drill bit, it snapped when I released the vise, next used a small allen wrench that barely fit into the small center hole, it held, and once i finally got the belt on I couldn't remove it from the tensioner. So off comes everything and I am back to square one trying to find somthing that will work. I think i will try a smaller size allan and see if that will work. Any suggestions??????????????????
