In-Tank Fuel Pump Safety 900

Last week I replaced the in-tank fuel pump on my Regina-equipped 92 940 and I got to thinking about the potential hazard of a spark occuring anywhere in the sender unit, which houses the pump (I know I should be thinking more pleasant thoughts). For example, if a wire becomes exposed from rubbing against the fuel pump bracket after a couple hundred thousand miles, causing a spark, would I have a catastrophe or would the fuse prevent it? What safety features are built in to the fuel system and the sending unit in particular, that would prevent something like this from happening? Please help ease my troubled mind. Thanks.
