Replacing a steering column 200 1980

I've got a new steering column (and steering wheel) to put in my '80 245 DL while I'm doing the heater core this weekend. The old one has been crunched in a bit and needs replacing.

Anyhow, I've got the new steering column ready to drop in. I'm wondering if there are any tips or tricks people might have that could help me with this.

Is there anything special about the bolts that hold the steering wheel locking mechanism to the column, other than the heads? I'm hoping to just put some standard bolts in place.

Anyhow, with the dash removed, I figure that it would be a lot easier to remove and replace the column.

Are there any tricks for keeping things aligned, so that when I put the new column and wheel on, things line up as they did before?

Thanks as always.
