240 auto doesn't shift unless you let off gas 200 1989

Hello,

My wifes 240 gl is an auto, ever since we got it you have to let off the gas for a second and then it will shift to the next gear. My wife is used to it but it annoys me when I drive it, I've tried lubricating the throttle pulley, that didn't do it. The volvo mechanic said usually volvos don't have internal problems, but it may, in which case he said it would be cheaper to live with it, not doing any harm to car.

Is there another possibility we haven't thought of. Thanks in advance.

Dave
