Let me add

"Do 850's and the -70 series have the same longevity and durability as our faithful bricks? I love my '91 745 turbo and plan to keep it as long as it is cost-effective but am eyeing the V70 and XC70's I see on eBay, but I wonder if they will be as trustworthy and easy to work on for a diy-er."

I've been working on the product since '85, 13 years at the dealer and 7 years running my own independent. The short answer is NO. If I was going to buy a new Volvo tomorrow I would get an XC70 and if I were to buy a used one it would be the latest model cleanest condition 940 I could find.
