I believe one of your leftover starters from a 200 Volvo will work on that
car.
You should check all the connections on all the cables.
Also it might be interesting to hook your jumper cables to the starter itself
and see if that helps. Also (with the starter out) try hooking one jumper
cable to the starter frame and touch the other to the bolt on the bottom of
the solenoid where the little cable goes into the starter. Should run pretty
fast. Then hook it to the other bolt (where the battery cable normally hooks)
and short to the ΒΌ" flat terminal that activates the solenoid. If it is a lot
slower, you need to open up the solenoid and clean it, file off the burrs, etc.
You'll probably have to remove the potting to get to the two screws and also
there are two wires soldered into the cap that you will have to unsolder to
get it off, then resolder when you put it back together. You may need to take
the two bolts off to file them smooth. One or both will have a washer that is
actually screwed onto the bolt so you will have to grab it by the edge and
unscrew it to get the bolt out.
After you do this to a solenoid about 4 or 5 times you'll have to build up the
bolt head that you filed smooth. Silver solder works pretty well.
WHOLE lot cheaper than a new/used starter. Got several in the culch heap.
