Car Dies and Won't Restart 900 1993

My wife's 1993 940 sedan (228K miles) lost power, then died while she was driving it at ~35 MPH recently. It would not restart. The car was towed home. It still does not start. This vehicle has a Regina FI system with just the one in-tank fuel pump. The pump, by the way, was replaced 7 months ago. Based on the FAQ on this site, I checked the fuel pump/FI relay. I resoldered some questionable looking terminals--no change. I jumpered terminals 30 and 87/2 of the relay--no change. I checked then bypassed anyway the radio supression relay-no change. The fuel pump produces a whining sound when it should based on key position II or III or jumpering the relay. I checked the return fuel line from the fuel pressure regulator. There was no fuel when the engine was cranked. I then checked the pressure on the Schraeder valve between the fuel pump and the fuel filter while the pump was running with a simple tire pressure gauge. There was no pressure. By now my question is probably obvious: what would cause there to be no output from a 7 month old fuel pump when the pump is apparently working (i. e. making a whining/whirring sound)? BTW, I tried flashing out the trouble codes in the various modes and there was nothing to flash out. Also, there is spark at the one plug I checked.
