brake - how much drain on battery 120-130

It's very cold and rainy in London - and I'm using the lights, fan, wipers together quite regularly.

But I've noticed that the one thing that sets the amp light shining (not glowing) is when I hit the brake. I have a booster and wonder if this is causing it. Is it normal that the brake would draw so much power as to make the red light come on while the pedal was depressed?

I plan to scrape any crud off my fuse holder tonight. BUt is there anything else I can do.

BY the way, I have an alternator (and quite a new one at that). Thanks

Tom
