I also don't know how to fix the issue, but I can tell you I've never heard of this causing a problem. I've noticed a little endplay in most of the ones I've changed timing belts on, but never thought anything of it. As long as the endplay isn't enough to cause the t-belt to be riding past the edge I would not be concerned.
