Studded snows - sliding on dry pavement? 200

It's time to buy a new set of snows.
I've seen many posts here praising studded snows. I've been using non-studded snows on 240's for 10 years, inspired by my experience below.

I only had studded snows once, on a lightweight rear-drive Toyota Corolla.
I hit the brakes hard one day on dry pavement, and the rear end (with no extra weight in it) broke away, and I was all over the road. I was lucky to get out of it without hitting anything.

I actually was able to hear and feel the car "skating" on the studs. It was scary.

So, what has your experience been with hard braking on studded tires?? Ever had that happen? I'm inclined to stay with non-studded tires, but I want to see what people will write here.
