6F this morning, won't start. 700

Wife's '91 740turbo. B230FT, 218K.

It was a little cold here this morning, single digits. The car coughs and sputters like it wants to run but just doesn't seem to catch. I sent her off in the '87 740T, put the charger on her car for a while to bring the battery back up and went out to crank it. More of the same, I tried it without touching the accelerator pedal and with it floored, not much difference. After a minute or two of cranking, I thought I smelled raw fuel, maybe too rich? I took the hose off the FPR that leads to the intake to see if there was gas in it, nope. Left the hose off in the hopes that some unmetered air might help if it was indeed too rich. Well, it made enough difference that the car finally started. Once it was running, it ran fine. No check engine light was set so I don't think checking the codes is going to help me here.

This has actually been an ongoing problem for the last couple of years. It only happens on very cold mornings. Last year, I seem to remember unplugging the AMM and that seemed to get it started. Maybe tomorrow, I'll try that again.

Any idea what's going on here? Should I try changing the FPR? The car starts every time without a problem until it gets very cold and I'm pretty sure it's too rich to start on these occasions.
