So... I'm considering adding another beast to the fleet, though whether it'll be a driver or a parts car is still up in the air. My worries are with the B280 that's in it. I've read a few archived posts on the lifespan of this engine ranging from estimates of 150k miles to 500k+. The car I'm looking at has 178k miles but it's quiet - no valve noise, no timing chain noise, no bearing knock or piston slap. The last couple of years of this car's life are well documented with good regular maintenance. However the interior of the car is pretty well trashed - leather is cracked and torn very badly, dash is cracked, sunroof leaks, and the rear interior panels are coming apart. Power seats don't work properly. Exhaust needs replacing. Hood is dented and one taillight is broken (cha-ching$$$!). And the Nivomats are original, so just about due for replacement.
Two questions, then:
1) What's a reasonable price to pay? He wants $1500, I figure half that is more realistic.
2) Has anyone here actually run a B280 much past 200k, or is this engine on its last legs?
Thanks in advance!
