Driver side Mirror falling off 700 1990

If you look at the bottom of the mirror housing, you will see a slot. Hard to describe, but, the mirror has a plastic mechanism glued to it(2piece). With a flat tip screw driver, you can reach in and rotate the mechanism maybe 1/4", and the mirror will come out. Mine tried to fall out after yrs the mech decided to move on me. It's kinda a male/female assembly with teeth.
