Uses oil - no smoke from exhaust - puzzled 700 1989

So.... I find this super 89 740T - in overall decent shape - only 2 owners.

The price was under $2000 CDN ($1600 USD).

The owner informed us it had been damaged on the rear left quarter when the original owner had it - the repair was good.

No rust - no interior rips - just some need to re-dye the leather trim on the seats.

And a few cracked door-pockets.

Also - the owner said the front brakes were shot - it was obvious!!!

No problem. - Brakes can be replaced.

My mechanic said that apart from the brakes - the car was fine.

Here is the problem.

- In less than 150 miles the car is down one quart of oil!!!

Also - there is a smell of burning oil at idle - when the engine is warm.

No obvious smoke coming out of the tailpipe - at idle or when accelerating or decelerating - no visible excessive leaks on the engine.

Could it be a plugged flame trap??

Also - although spirited - this car is a pig on fuel - way mor than our 240's.

THanks in advance

A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL
