ALternator or Battery. 200 1991

I took a lengthy (1000 miles) trip several weeks ago, my car has been fine (i had taken several trips, the longest was about 80 miles) except the other day. I get in my car, turn the key and nothing... it was late at night so i switched the lights on and they were very dim. I knew the battery was already on it's way out so i went ahead and replaced it. Everything is fine now but I am still worried that it may be my alternator. I am also concerned because i get shocked every time i exit my car. Even if i just get in to turn it on and pop the hood. Is there a chance something isn't grounding? I haven't done anything to my car after the trip but clean up some fuses... advice?
