I am a fairly new Volvo owner, only about 2 years now. I have an 87 745 non-turbo with 212,000 miles on the original engine. I have maintained the car very well and have never had an overheat issue. I am the second owner, the first owner maintained the car very well and he indicated he never had an overheat issue. I need some assistance with a slow coolant leak. It has developed over the last week in the extreme cold here in Ohio. When I leave the car sit overnight, I notice a small puddle of coolant laying on the drivers side of the engine, at the very front of the engine underneath the head. To describe it better, the coolant pools on top of the block underneath where the head is stamped with "B230". I have been cleaning the coolant off every morning (it is a very small amount, maybe a tablespoon) and driving the car to work. I have sat and watched the suspected source of the leak while the car is running and it does not leak when it runs. When I leave it sit hot, it is still not leaking. But when it cools off overnight, it tends to leak. I am curious as to how often B230 head gaskets leak externally? I have also found a small amount of coolant dripping from the upper radiatior hose or the thermostat housing that collects overnight in the cold weather. I am hoping the coolant is running down below the housing, down around the head and dripping onto the block, but I am not sure. Anyone else have external head gasket leaks on a B230? I know water (coolant) can run and drip in all kinds of directions, I am hoping it is not the head gasket. Any of you guys have a head gasket replaced by a shop, what did you pay? Can I add stop leak to the pressurized overflow bottle to slow the leak if it is the head gasket? Any help would be appreciated greatly! I am a young, poor guy who needs my Brick to get to work! Thanks in advance!!
