Failure to start, car dying, battery? 200 1985

Maybe you can give some quick advice. It is cold as hell here in Chicago today, I started my 240DL, got it going, then it died in an intersection. A guy helped me push it. I got a jump, it took the jump right away, then I drove home to park it (only about 500 yards), revved it a bit, then was going to sit in it for a second, put on the heater, and the rear window defroster, it shuddered, as if it was too much for the system to bear, then it died, couldn't start again. Would that be the battery? It's at least 2-3 years old, wasn't a great battery to begin with, I think...The starter is new. When I tried to start it after it died, it was weak, as if it was trying to start but couldn't. thanks.
