Trunk lid torsion bars 120-130 1967

I made the mistake(?) of lubricating the trunk hinges on my son's 122S to quiet an annoying squeak and now the lid won't stay up. I conclude that the torsion bars are tired out. I've checked the shop manual and there doesn't appear to be any sort of adjustment possible. Is there a simple trick to solve this problem or is replacement of the bars/hinges (or a length of stick) the only answer?

Thanks,

Barry Gordon
