I was reading some posts just now, and realized again just how many thousands of dollars I've saved in the last seven years since I've owned RWD Volvos.
How many cars are still out there that can last as long as these suckers do, and still give a feeling of security when you're driving them? OK, old Benzes can probably go on the list, too, and some folks swear by VWs and even SAABs, but not much else.
My 940 SE has 256K miles on it now, and drives like new. I picked the car up for a song because other people thought the mileage was too high.
(Continuing rant): What blows my mind is this. I have a perfectly good automobile that I'm proud of, get huge amounts of enjoyment out of, and gets me to work reliably every day. Other folks spend $300-$400+ a month for that. And I can work on it myself. I seriously may never have another car payment again, and it baffles me why I ever did in the first place. Of course, they're only really cost effective if you can work on them yourself or have a reasonable indy mechanic, but that fits a bunch of us here.
I've had moments where I've wanted to push a couple of the 5 I've owned off a cliff, but it always eventually got worked out. It was a "God-thing" that I ever owned one in the first place, and now I'm hooked and on my fifth.
Long live Volvos, and long live the Brickboard!
