bumper-intake inhales road muck 700

I live on a very muddy road that runs through a corn-field for about a mile.
Say it with me. Ouch. bad on shocks, dusty as Oklahoma was once, etc.

Okay, so it's muddy now and I was fiddlin with my AMM and it gives me strange readings depending on the outside temp/time of day (this does change the air's capacity to absorb heat/specific heat).

My car is turbo and has only cold-air in. The route for this feeds from the airbox into the space between outside and inside body panels on the passenger side. There is a gap in the wheel well that is allowing my car to inhale road muck right into my air filter (ohh, it was bad after 1800 miles). Does anyone know why this is set this way? I was also thinking that I might have room to run a second intake off the normally hot-in port. I can remove the plug easily and just need to find a route for the tubing. Can I block this intake point? It's about 5 inches squared total.

-Will
