rough running, b20 engine 120-130

I have a b20 engine that I've put in a '67 122s. After getting everything in place, I still have a very rough idling engine. The compression is 115psi across all cylinders, but if I pull the #1 plug wire it makes very little difference. (I tried new wires, and new plugs) also the #4 plug wire seems to have minimal effect on the idle as well. Matter of fact I pulled #1 and #4 and it was still running about the same (maybe a little worse, but at this point I was just amazed on how the thing was still going!) Now #2 and #3 both drastically effect the idle if removed.
Now I know the firing order 1342 from front to back, and the distributor goes in the CCW direction.
Does this sound like anything you guys have seem before? Am I missing something really obvious? If one or both of the SU carbs bad, wouldn't it affect both the #1 and #2 cylinders and not just one? (or 3-4 etc.)
Maybe the car is suppose to idle like an out-of-balance washing machine!
At highway speed it seems pretty smooth.
Anyway, if anyone has a suggestion I would appreciate your input.
Ken
