Volvo 240 exhaust kit fit problems 200

Has anyone else had problems with fitting the new Volvo OE exhaust systems? It seems there's been a switch in what's supplied by our local Volvo dealer, from the under-axle pipe used for years back to the over-axle pipe as originally installed, and at the local indie shop not one has fit properly - either hitting the gas tank, floor, or banging against the triangular brace that comes down by the 'ears' on the rear calipers. There seems to be lots of banging and prying involved in getting it to fit - not typical of the previous Volvo exhaust kits.
