One wheel on ice. 200

I had my '89 245 parked recently on a slight hill with one rear wheel on ice and the other was on pavement. My brand new snow tires (good ones which I've seen mentioned time and time again on the BB and the name of the brand eludes me at present) just kept spinning and the car could not pull itself off of the ice.
Finally my daughter, who had her "all wheel drive" Forester parked nearby, said "let's just take my car" and we did.
Is this the standard fair for a 240?
