immediate loss of power, dies, starts right up 200 1991

hi all,

the subject kind of explains it all. my 91 240 has done this only twice since i got it two months ago (once when my wife was driving it and tonight with me driving). the car runs and idles perfectly at all speeds but in these two instances the car just lost all power the instrument lights went off and that was it. in both instances it started up immediately. i've done some searching of the archives and will do more but just thought maybe someone out there had some suggestions as it's a bit disconcerting to drive around Los Angeles with the idea that this could happen at any time.
