PROGRESS!! No start Saga Part II 700

90 760 Turbo Sedan 225,000 miles

After two weeks of well documented NO START, I decided toight at 9:00 PM to start tearing down gthe peripherals.

After removing the intercooler to throttle body hose/pipe and IAC valve and hose, for kicks I decided to try to start the engine. Keep in mind the car has not started in 2 weeks even though I know I have fuel and spark. The car started right up! (even though, obviously; it was idling rough (hunting up and down betweeen ~750 and ~1250 RPM.....but this is the first time it has started.

I should point out that the turbo has leaked across the seals since I bought the car at 130,000 miles in 2000. There was slight pooling of oil in the intercooler to T/B hose and pooling at the intercooler outlet. Continuing on the turbo side, I removed the air box to turbo hose and the turbo to intercooler hose. All had a lot of oily film and slight pooling. Turbo impeller runout was ~1.0 mm - 2.0 mm......

Questions: Is it possible that the intercooler is so choked with oil, that airflow is impeded? Is it also possible that the CAT is clogged with oil as well? What are the most effective steps for tomorrow? Drain the intercooler obviously but is it/can it clog??

Should I remove the throttle body and clean? Should I go ahead and drop the intake manifold all together?? I go through a qt of oil every 600 miles.....I also have a leak at the rear main.....replaced the front seals a few years ago....other than the oil consumption, this car has been ROCK SOLID for me....hate to give it up!!

I am trying to decide whether to drop the $$$ to repair the brick or cut my losses and buy a later model Volvo.....

ANY ADVICE on next steps from a troubleshooting perspective from you veterans?? Many thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!!
