Battery tray rotted out. How have you dealt with it? 700 1988

What were your solutions? Mine had been repaired by a previous owner. A sheet of galvanized metal was cut and bolted into the remaining pan just behind the headlights, and this tray was bolted to the front of the fender well. It's finally rotting so I pulled it out. The original battery clamp threaded boss is still there and functional but the tray is gone where it starts up the front of the fender well.

Anyone have any insight into a repair more elegant than a 2X4?

Thanks,

Erwin in Memphis.
