Is the investment with fuel problems worth it 200 1981

I have the opportunity to own a 1981 volvo 240 dl/glt wagon. currently it is not running. I have to replace the wire to the solenoid, but when it starts it stalls right away. I have heard of others having this problem and it continuing after fuel pumps and such are replaced. Fuel is getting into the lines. It has not run since 2002 and its from Arizona. I am a beginning mechanic with the repair manual. Is this an expensive car to mantain and are fuel problems a real headache for this model?
