find the leak challenge 120-130

I've been trying to narrow down and stop the leaks which are contributing to
pooling water on my front passenger side floor for a few weeks now. I have now tried putting a bead of silcon on the outside perimeter of my windshield where the rubber meets the body metal. I did this very carefully and I'm sure the seal is good, but I only put it around the top and sides, not the one bottom edge. To my frustration however, this did not seem to cut the flow off. I can still see where the water getting in from somewhere, thenfinding it's lowest "hanging point" under the dash, then dripping from that point down onto the floor. Unfortunately I cannot see where the origin of this water is because it's obsscured by the dash.

Anyway, two thoughts occured to me which i wanted to ask the group... The first is, how much water could potentially get through the "groove" where the windshield glass fits into the rubber gasket? It seems unlikely that water could flow around the edge of the glass, as that contact between rubber and glass seems pretty tight all the way around. I'm hoping that the answer is "rarely if ever" that water gets through this inside portion (glass and rubber) of the seal rather than the outside portion (rubber to metal), so that I don't have to mess with drawing a bead all the way around the inside portion.

The other thought I had was about that air "hole" (intake) for fresh air to the heater-box assembly. It seems like rather a large invitation for water to come on in via the heater in some way. I think I heard in passing once that there are some drain holes in there somewhere, but I could not see any in the tech-illustration in my green Haynes manual. Has anybody every had water leak into the cabin via this route? It seems like if I were having this problem, the water would be coming out from somewhere lower in the heater, and not from under the dash however.

I'm thinking about trying to tape off and seal the air-intake "sky facing hole" with some sheet plastic and tape to see if that might make difference. It doesn't seem like this could harm anything for the winter, but perhaps I'm overlooking something?

So.. I hope my explanation and questions make sense to somebody out there.

Thanks Much.
