I know, I know -- Anti-sneeze 120-130

Ron:

Thanks for suggesting a better lubricant for the jets. The cable clamp was peened per choke tips at your website during the first week or so of ownership. The problem this time was the rubber coating of the cable becoming brittle and separating.

Perhaps the sticking jets had something to do with excessive force on the cables leading to premature (only 40 years - sheesh!) failure of the cable coating. Last time I checked the cable assembly was kinda pricey ($60 at the dealer) but having a good working choke is one of the great pleasures of winter starting.

When the sheathing started to fail on the 544 I slid off the old sheathing from the carb end and replaced it with some bicycle brake sheathing. Looks like its time to visit the bike shop again.

Best regards,

Joe M in WV
