Wheel vibrates / car shakes when steering right 200 1987

At highway speeds the front left wheel on my 245 often begins to shake/vibrate, enough to shake the whole car. It began infrequently, and only when in a curve to the right, but now happens almost every time there is even a slight right-turning load on the wheel. Steering just left of center always makes the vibrating stop; it seems taking the load off the wheel stops the vibration. Braking also stops the vibration.

At first I thought it was a bad strut but that appears to be in good shape.

What would cause the wheel to shake when it has a turning load? Any danger of a catastrophic failure (wheel coming off)?

Thanks,

Terry
