Brake problem has me stumped 700 1987

I believe the brake light comes on due to an imbalance in pressure between the two braking systems. It sounds like you have a problem with your master cylinder or ABS unit. I've seen ABS units on e-bay for around $50 but I'd do the master cylinder first. If it's the original one it probably needs replacement. My brakes were mushy intermittantly at first before the master cylinder finally gave out completely but the brake light never came on.
