Doh! Brakelights are gone now

News report: 1990 740 Brakelights out

Bulbs look good and fuse is good. The rest of the TAIL lights light, but no brake lights ever. Previous posts tell me I should check the brakelight switch, some circular relay behind the fuses, and another sensor (bulb out?) by the steering column.

Can someone 'illuminate' (yuck yuck ;P) what i'm supposed to REALLY check? Historical posts I've read haven't been all that clear. And how on earth does one access the relay behind the fuses?! No clue how to get back there.

The bulb out sensor appears to be working fine because it properly detected my broken HEAD light. I also yanked the two wires going to the brakelight switch and got some voltage of ~7 or so volts with my meter. If I connect these two wires, shouldn't the brake lights turn on? They didn't when I used a small wire to short them together. Maybe I need a better connection.

At this point I'm not sure. The brickboard hasn't failed me yet, so I'm looking for some guidance.

AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!
