'92 940GL engine failure 900

I just purchased a '92 940GL w/ 135K. Car seemed fine at first, then it just stopped one day after a 1/2 hour drive. Wouldn't redstart. Started next day and ran fine for a while, then it stopped. Changed cap, rotor, plugs, and fuel filter. When it runs, it purrs like a kitten. It suddenly dies and now it basically won't run. Engine is getting gas at fuel rail. Doesn't seem to have spark when I place a screwdriver in plug wire and hold against block while engine's cranked. Does this sound like a coil that progressively got worse or could this be an ECU issue? Any way to test a coil before replacing it? The controller is getting juice. Thanks in advance.
