Update on 'At wit's end with '95 960 wagon' 900 1995

Hello,
Dan Ray (aka DanR) sent me an email recently about the status of our '95 965 that we were working on about a year ago. See the thread: http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=901194&show_all=1

It still doesn't start and has been left to sit while we have been pursuing more worthwhile and easily repairable projects.

My Dad stopped by the dealer a few weeks back (12/05), and the lead tech there gave him a new CTS (Coolant Temperature Sender) to try out. Apparently, the CTS sometimes goes bad and won't let the engine start (he's had a few other 960s with this problem in the past few months) and simply plugging in a new one (not even installing it in the T-stat housing) will cure the no-start problem. We have yet to try this possible solution.

My Dad might be able to give you a full list of what we've done to the car, but I can try to summarize here as well:

1. Swapped out all computers (transmission, EFI, etc.)
2. Replaced entire engine wiring harness
3. Replaced entire interior wiring harness
4. Replaced both power stage modules
5. Checked all wiring, twice, if not thrice
6. Replaced Cam Position Sensor
7. Replaced/tested coil packs
8. New spark plugs
9. Checked timing belt (it does spin while engine is cranking)
10. Replaced intake manifold gasket(s)
11. Checked all vacuum hoses
12. Cleared all codes (multiple times)
13. Checked all fuses (by battery, by air box, interior [dash side])
14. Checked all relays (be air box, interior [glove box side])
15. Replaced both battery cables (+) and (-)
16. Replaced Flywheel/Crank Position Sensor
17. Replaced starter motor

We have not replaced the PNP switch, but we have the tool and a new switch to do so. I suppose that's what we'll try next if swapping in a new CTS does nothing.

If anybody has any other suggestions our ears and minds are open.

Hope you have a happy and healthy 2006.

Jonathan
