How in the Hell Do You Pull an M-47? 200 1990

Maybe I should ask, how do you install an M-47? I'm putting a new clutch in my '90 240. Last night, I got the trannie out . . . barely. I am not even sure exactly what move finally freed it. The problem is the bulge in the bellhousing for the starter hitting the tunnel. I've done a couple of other 240 clutches, although never a 5-spd, but I do not recall them being so hard to pull. I would appreciate any suggestions that will make replacing the gearbox less of an ordeal.

Also, is there a known good way to get at the fastener which is at the very top center of the bellhousing. I managed to get it out a twelfth of a turn at a time working blindly with my hands somehow stuffed between the fire wall and the engine.

Why Volvo bolts up the gearbox with hidden fasteners hidden away in the bellhousing is beyond me.

Thanks,

Rich
