possible to put an AW71 into '78 242? 200 1978

hey guys, i'm about ready to make the decision on the '78 242 i found. the only drawback to this project is the 3-speed automatic trans... is it possible to replace this with a later model AW71? i know that i'd have to find one with the speedometer cable, but would the factory cable on the '78 fit an '82-'85 AW71? if i do another tranny switch i want it to be as simple as possible without any other modifications or fabrication. what's the difference here? Thanks!
