Seat belt mystery 700 1991

I'm puzzled by the behavior of my passenger side seat belt. Went to the local Pull-A-Part for a replacement belt. Finally found one that matched the old belt. It worked perfectly while in the donor car. Got it home, cleaned it up, installed it and now it refuses extend. I checked the FAQ, but the subject belt featured there was different from the one installed in my car. What have I missed??

P.S. The donor car was scrapped due to a devastating collision. The front end was completely destroyed up to the "A" pillar but the windshield wasn't even cracked. Reminded me why I put up with the lousy fuel milage.
