Safe and Proper Way to Put in New Battery 200 1989

I know this should be a no-brainer, but I just want to play it safe. The faq has no step-by-step guide, probably because most people know how to change a battery. I've done this on my M-B 190E, and I'm sure changing a car battery is the same for all cars. But I've forgotten what I did. If I remember correctly, the NEG terminal should be disconnected first when taking out the old battery? So, on a 240, I disconnect NEG, then POS. What about putting in the new battery? On a 240, are there any special steps unique to this model? Any precautions? I noticed that the battery is held down by something. How do I remove the battery itself from the tray?

Thanks to this board I will replace my battery with a Wal-Mart Everstart for around $40. I understand the company that makes this brand also makes batteries for Interstate.
