Engine loses power when headlights are on 200 1985

Yesterday night, I lost my alternator belt because the adjuster was not tight enough.

This morning I have installed a new alternator belt. For some reasons - too hard and too long to explain here - I also have disconnected the alternator from the wire harness (and forgot to detach the negative terminal from the battery).

After the repair, I drove the car about 20 miles and noticed a curious phenomenon: when the headlight high are on, the engine loses its power and some other electrical devices such horn, instrument panel lamp, etc doesn't work anymore.

What to do to fix this? Besides the temperature gauge seems higher than usual.

A big thank for your help.
