Freeing stuck rings

This is a question that has been running around my nogging for the last little while. Engine with stuck rings, would it be possible to say pull the plugs and spray a bunch of PB blaster down in the cylinders rotate the mass assembly spray more, let sit and do this for a while(few days or a week) and work the rings back this way? I know you would have to dry the cylinders out before trying to crank again and all.
Would the above destroy the cat or the 02 sensors? Not going to do this in my car-older 240 I sold to an uncle (450k miles on it now) we were thinking about giving it a go--
Thanks
Poolman
