Generic Problem....Volvo 'related' 140-160

Unless you are leaking a lot of oil past your valve stems (which will cause
the rearview mirror image to disappear upon or following hard deceleration)
a valve job probably will not make any difference. If you're not EVER seeing
ANY smoke, it's hard to believe that the rings would be very bad, but half a
quart in 1000 miles is not a lot for some cars I've owned. Remember that the
YP used to use a quart in 40 miles....

Have you cleaned the engine, especially around the oil pan, drain plug, filter
and oil pressure switch? Also maybe the valve cover, etc That might help
find it, especially if you put some dye into the oil.
