engine squeals 240dl 1990 only when cold 200

have a 1990 240dl very pleased with it so far. Have done some work to her and shes responded very nicely as she has 240K on her. Anyway since its gotten colder she now squeals quite loudly from the engine (water pump or alternator area). After driven for a few miles this squealing stops!? Does this sound like a belt problem or what do you think?? Any info. will be greatly appreciated. Doug
