won't start w strong engine turnover 200 1989

I have a 1989 240DL station wagon with 230,000 miles. Have had no problems last 6 months, however just came back from a 100 mile trip yesterday, filled up with gas ( was very low), drove home and parked car. Tried to start in a couple of hours and wouldn't start ( strong battery and strong turnover). Tried again next morning and still won't start. Put dry gas in and tried again....after a few tries it started and ran well. Tried again the ext morning and back to no start with strong turnover. I read this could be a gas filter problem. Is this expensive to fix? What else should I look at? Thanks.
