960 starting problem

I have a 92 volvo 960 and it will not start with the key. .The neutral safety switch was replaced a while back and everything worked well. When it was replaced
the problem was that I would have to wiggle the shifter to get it to start. I presently start it with a hot wire and a switch that goes to the starter, so obviously the problem is not the starter as I have started it this way now for about six months.

Any ideas on the cause?
