1980 242 GT - B21F engine
I've read most of the other posts on closing off the airbox and letting only cold air into the engine. Already did it on my '95 965 and it seemed to heighten response at highway speeds just a bit, so I thought I'd do it to the GT.
Pulled the GT in today to close off the hot air return into the airbox. Sure enough, the cold air intake is closed off by the flapper, so maybe that intake thermostat has already failed in the hot-air position. It's certainly not warm enough today to have that thermostat think it's necessary to let in any hot air!
I wondered if anyone has had success in pulling off the airbox the hot air return hose from the manifold, and running in a second cold air intake into the airbox. I'm sure I could find somewhere up front to mount it, resulting in 2 cold air intakes into the box -- the original, and the hot-air side. I figure if you jerk the flapper thermostat altogether, then have both air intakes piping in cold air, you win out no matter what. I'would leave the hot air hose in place on the manifold, in case I need to "retrofit" for future E-police inspections (not in my county in Ohio yet, but they're talking about it).
Has anyone done this with any success ???
