Tranny stuck? 140-160 1974

Last Sunday, as I was ready to take my 74 144 and my family for breakfast, it did something that it has never done before. The gear shifter could barely move upwards into R, 1 and 3 from neutral, and could not move downward at all into 2 and 4. So I took the Mitsubishi and after coming back, I was ready to have it towed to the garage, but decided to give it one more try. Guess what? Magically, it shifted perfectly into all gears. I drove the car to the garage ( no problems whatsoever), and had the tranny oil replaced as a precaution. Anyone encounter this before? Or do 144s occasionally sleep in late on Sunday mornings?
